Welcome to Notes From a Busy Mum

I am 46, a mum of three, and a full-time secondary school leader. I am married to a professional who also works full time, and like many families, our days are busy, loud, and often a little chaotic. Our home is a whirlwind of school runs and deadlines, but it is also full of love, learning, and the moments that make the juggle worthwhile. My daughters are sixteen and thirteen, and my youngest is an eleven-year-old boy, which means our life is currently a masterclass in resilience, shifting moods, and constant negotiation.

I decided to start this blog because I wanted a space to share the reality of family life as it really is. Between the homework struggles, the pressures of work, and the realities of marriage, it is so easy to feel stretched thin. I wanted to strip away the “filtered” version of parenthood and speak to the experience of trying to stay connected while encouraging independence. What shapes my perspective is the unique “double-lens” I wear every day; by day, I lead in a secondary school, watching hundreds of teenagers navigate their own successes and struggles. By evening, I’m home, trying to apply those same lessons to my own children, often learning the hard way that listening matters more than talking, and that setting boundaries while offering trust is a delicate, ongoing dance.

In this space, you can expect honest stories from our home, reflections on balancing a demanding career with motherhood, and thoughts on the realities of modern parenting. Whether you are navigating the world of toddlers or the complexities of teenagers, I hope this space offers some encouragement and reassurance. Perfection isn’t the goal; it’s all about showing up and being honest enough to acknowledge when you’ve got it wrong.

I am so glad you’re here. Here’s to family life and figuring it out as we go.
